I have traveled in many countries with my work and I constantly observe babies and how people respond to them. Babies speak such a universal language - they transcend all of humanity’s self-imposed boundaries of culture, class, religion and nationality. Babies effortlessly communicate to everyone, and we would do well to reflect on the reason why. We might not have any words in common with the parents, but the smile or tears of a baby are understood everywhere. Even, or perhaps most of all, babies communicate when they are peacefully, silently asleep. Their rhythmic breathing, their air of utter trust, speak of a deep tranquility that could be ours if only we too could similarly let go of our anxieties.
